Plantation Black Cask Double Aged Rum is a blend of molasses rums distilled in Barbados and Guatemala.
The rum is first aged for several years in its country of origin, in 200-liter American white oak barrels. It then travels to south-west France, where it is matured in lightly toasted Ferrand oak barrels, adding a smoky, elegant note.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, there's a tropical humidity of sugar-laden fruit and citrus peel aromas that add fragrance, bitterness and freshness. One might think of a Cuban-style rum, balanced and just shaped by the wood.
With aeration, the Cuban elegance gives way to a "Latina" gourmandise, while the citrus peels are generously coated with a vanilla and gingerbread syrup.
On the palate, it's the rum's more concentrated side that reaches us first. This exotic, resolutely tropical fruitiness is further enhanced by a marked roundness that coats the palate with soft vanilla notes.
The finish is a little more roasted, with a pinch of coffee grounds on the long finish.
"A round, gourmand rum, carried by a concentrated, fruity heart..."
