Rest & Be Thankful 2000 Monymusk MPG is a Pure Single Rum made from molasses by Jamaica's legendary Clarendon distillery.
Distilled in an iron still in 2000, this rum was then placed in American oak barrels for a period of 21 years. It was first aged on site, before being repatriated to Scotland by the British bottling company Fox Fitzgerald. An angel's share of over 41% was recorded on cask number #7322.
Bottling took place in March 2022 at the natural cask strength, without coloring or cold filtration. This unique cask has produced 181 bottles worldwide.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose of this rum is initially rather light, and surprises with its fresh, fruity profile. It takes us to an orchard where the pears are still full of morning freshness, as are the white flowers that surround them.
With aeration, the pears oxidize slightly and are joined by a few baked apples, themselves surrounded by a handful of plums with greedy cores. A few light, ethereal notes still hover above the glass, reminiscent of something winey, grappa-like.
On the palate, the fruit is much riper and is swept up in a storm where its pits and seeds become sharper. Bursting into metallic petals, they pierce the sweet flesh of the fruit to give us a dynamic, colorful mouthfeel. It's not all rest and relaxation, as the alcohol is rather powerful, but its vigor will delight lovers of dry, lively spirits.
The finish is more pastry-like, with kernels joining almonds in a somewhat vegetal cream reminiscent of orgeat.
