A must-have in Reunion, the 49° white from Charrette can be drunk in multiple ways: dry, with a slice of lemon, coke... It also serves as a base for making mixed rums.
Nico's tasting notes
In brief: sugar - vanilla - fermentation - round
On the nose, the cane sugar syrup takes on a few floral notes, but retains its vanilla candy character. The floral changes to vegetal and a few notes of fermentation temper the sweetness. Time will increasingly flesh out this powerful nose, giving it heavier notes of olive and solvent. The sweet, mellow aspect also contains damp aromas of mushroom and wet paper.
The first taste is very round, giving a candy-like sensation that quickly thickens. Olive, artichoke and acidic fermentation notes break the veil of sweetness. This is followed by a vegetal, peppery cane that gradually releases its thick juice.
The finish returns to a slightly alcoholic sweetness and the bitterness of combava zest.
