Myers's original dark rum 40°: Description and customer reviews

Myers's original dark is a traditional rum produced since 1879. It is a blend of several rums (up to 9) that have been distilled in column stills from 100% Jamaican molasses and spent at least 4 years in white oak casks.
Before bottling, a little molasses is added to the rum to give it that dark color, texture and, of course, the characteristic molasses aromas.

Myers's original dark rum can be drunk neat or used as a base for a variety of cocktails.

Nico's tasting notes

In brief: round - fruit - vegetable - pastry

On the nose, you immediately recognize a balanced Jamaican style. It's necessarily expressive, but also very sweet and caramelized. It manages to reconcile greediness with the character of very ripe, slightly coppery exotic fruits. Almond and pine resin don't need time to express themselves; this is a quiet, friendly Jamaican.
Aeration reveals a heavier character, with wilder fruit. But the roundness returns with candied fruit and dark raisins, showing a deep, serious side. More complex notes of cherry and stone, pine and resin, or prune in brandy come with time. Finally, prolonged rest will allow a fine nutty film to settle over the whole.

The palate is round and smooth. Once again, the exoticism comes from tropical fruits, with a typical touch of copper and oxidization. The prune is greedy, as are the nuts that mingle with resin and molasses. The profile is rather dark, less clear than on the nose. Hints of brown sugar and licorice undoubtedly point to molasses.

The finish also features molasses and a pinch of roasted nuts.

"The recipe seems very well mastered for this gourmet Jamaican blend, but faithful to its tradition..."

very good rum...I had a hard time finding it. A nod to what my son-in-law and daughter used to drink in St Martin.
