Rhum Rhum PMG is an agricultural white rum from Marie-Galante which comes from the Bielle distillery.
Produced exclusively from the juice of sugar cane grown on the island, the rum is fermented at around 22°C for a period of 7 to 9 days. It is then left to rest for an entire year in a stainless steel tank.
With a strength of 56°, Rhum Rhum PMG is a perfect expression of the tradition of agricultural rum. In 2009, he won a gold medal at the World Spirits Awards in Klagenfurt, Austria.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is superb, with a succession of natural fruit that is both extremely fresh and sweet. There's yellow fruit (peach) and ripe exotic fruit (mango, pineapple) for sunshine and sweetness, and then white fruit (apple, pear) for freshness. The whole world of agriculture is here, with citrus, pepper and a floral side, but there's an extra touch of delicacy and gourmandise, with complex notes of honey and cooked sugar.
Once it has passed the rim of the glass, the rum lets its power express itself, passing through a drier phase of bagasse and fermentation. Then it's back to the cane, as beautiful, delicate and aromatic as ever, with a hint of honey.
The attack on the palate is powerful but not burnt. Notes of fermented cane juice are accompanied by a hint of metal and lime or combava zest. The rum then melts and warms up, becoming round and enveloping, without giving in to a gourmet ease; we're still dealing with a terroir eau-de-vie with character. Notes of bagasse and fermentation close the deal.
On the finish, the impression left is that of a more classic rhum agricole than we had on the nose, with a hitherto discreet pepper and mineral sensation.
