Saint James Brut de Colonne Organic 74.2°: Description and customer reviews

Saint James Brut de Colonne Bio is a first for this major Martinique producer. As one of the island's biggest producers, it is aware of its potential ecological footprint. That's why it is aiming for carbon neutrality, and is increasingly working with organic cane.

This rum is an important step in affirming this environmental responsibility. It is also a gift to Saint James lovers and devotees. The brut de colonne is a privilege usually reserved for distinguished guests. The distillery invites you to discover it via this small batch from a single day of distillation (08/07/20).

This AOC Martinique rum is distilled in a Creole column using organic cane, and bottled brut de colonne, with no reduction in alcohol content.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is enticing, immediately revealing a cane au naturel, tender and sweet. Its rustic, vegetal and peppery character is part of the landscape, but in the background, just signs of authenticity. All the room is left to the sweetness and green fullness of sugarcane juice.

With aeration, the cane and its bark fall into place to form a true rhum agricole, in the purest Martinique style. It exudes a certain straightforwardness and seriousness, without losing the generosity of its gently vegetal and spicy aromas.

The palate is surprisingly round and immediately tender. It seems as if a soft cane fiber is being passed over our taste buds, with a texture comparable to nougat. Then this cane (which has been steering the ship on its own all along) sets about giving us our dose of thrill and intensity. It refreshes the palate with a gripping but never burning intensity, then leaves us to enjoy a lovely, concentrated lime jam.

The finish is very aromatic, with peppery bagasse and baked sugar with hints of licorice.

"A brut de colonne that reaches new heights of roundness and deliciousness, while keeping its soul intact...".
