Saint James Millésime 2001 43°: Description and customer reviews

This 2001 vintage from Saint James aged over 10 years in oak barrels before being slowly reduced to 43° and bottled in 2011.

Nico's tasting notes

In brief: woody - exotic essence - cigar box - spices - dried fruit - cane - liquorice

The nose opens with a serious, dark, waxed woodiness. It's a rare, exotic essence from which cigar humidors are made. The profile is reminiscent of this world of tobacco and wood, with fine, weathered spices. The cigar box is left a little open, and as it airs out, the scents lighten, reminiscent of newer, younger wood. The spices are a little more gourmand and playful.
With more and more openness, the woodiness relaxes for good, letting the dried fruits escape. These are fruits that have been dried for a long time, and with a certain know-how, they have kept their most elegant fragrances. These are complemented by spices to accompany the cane and present it at its best.

The palate is soft and woody. The impression of a very exotic essence is once again conveyed, as the wood seems to contain rich, gourmand aromas. As it travels through its toasted fiber, the cane has picked up raisins, ripe fruit juices, licorice, spices, nuts... It's the woodiness that's in control here, and we'll always come back to it before sliding from one aroma to the next.

The finish is rather delicate, with pepper and a hint of licorice reminiscent of brown sugar, almost molasses.

"The woodiness is the star of this rum, serving the aromas and always leaving its own little signature..."

    very good rum

  2. Yann

Saint James is still very decent, but for a 2001 I expected better.
