Saint James Vieux 15 ans 43° : Description and customer reviews

Packaged in the "modernized" square bottle that characterizes the Saint-James distillery, the 15 ans d'âge produced by the brand is a veritable concentrate of Martinique's terroir and traditional West Indian know-how.

This rum is distinguished by its extraordinary maturation, with 60% of the initial volume constituting the angels' share as it evaporates. The result is a rum of incomparable finesse, albeit with sensitive tannins.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose of this rum is disconcerting, as the aromas explode in your face from the very first moment. Both fresh and deeply spicy, the nose is very woody and expressive. It succeeds in combining strong notes of velvety honey with intoxicating power. The woodiness is finely spiced and very classy, like a cigar box. Still in these very woody tones, we now smell the slight smoke of a crackling wood fire. Licorice and a mix of dried fruits, including apricot, diffuse their aromas in this warmth.
Aeration confirms the complexity and richness of this rum. Peanut paste adds thickness, and the finesse of a stone brandy shows another sign of distinction. This is a concentrated, generous and fragrant rum. The chocolate is fine and gourmand, the cane sophisticated and concentrated to the point of becoming a golden, sticky resin.

The palate is more natural and raw. This old rum manages to retain the soul of its youth, with a peppery cane. It is both complex and smooth, with astringent wood and melting tannins on the tongue. The dried fruit is savory and mellow, the prune is fleshy, but the spices are lively enough to sustain the rum's ardor, which is diffused without losing its intensity.

Candied cane, dried fruit, licorice and mellow tannins never leave the palate once tasted.

"This more than respectably aged rum is the result of a fine cane brandy aged and blended with great skill..."
