Samai White Rum 41°: Description and customer reviews

Samai White Rum is a molasses rum from Cambodia. The country's only artisan distillery was set up by two Venezuelan friends living in Cambodia.

The rum is pot still and column distilled, then rested in ex-bourbon casks for at least a year. At the end of this light ageing, it is filtered through activated charcoal to regain its translucent color. This allows it to retain a perfect hue for cocktails, while still being impregnated with complex flavors.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose opens with a nicely funky, fruity rum, which also carries very gourmand, pastry-like notes. Marzipan and cherry are just lifted by a hint of copper, pointing towards the stone.

The aeration brings body, fullness and a slightly more robust, full-bodied character. It's the warmth that stands out, however, and not at all a kind of excessive strength. The profile now leans more towards very ripe fruit than pastry.

On the palate, it's the hint of copper that first hits the taste buds. It gives way to a nice, fatty texture, perfect ground for the pastry flavors to come. Almond and cherry rub shoulders with exotic fruit with ease, then are lifted by a light blast of roasted nuts.

The finish is long and exotic, with a few herbal and resinous notes to round things off.

" A beautiful balance between funky aromas and a peaceful character... "
