Veritas 47°: Description and customer reviews

Italian bottler Velier designed Veritas in collaboration with the Hampden (Jamaica) and Foursquare (Barbados) distilleries.

This is a blend of white rums: those from Hampden are distilled in Double Retort Pot Still, and those from Foursquare in Coffey Column Still.

The fact that this rum is slightly golden is due to the fact that it is unfiltered.

Veritas is designed for premium cocktails, but can also be drunk neat as a tasting drink.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose opens with a light Hampden of very ripe exotic fruit, olive and leather. The Jamaican character is there, without completely taking over the profile. A coppery, metallic air resonates with the plum brandy. The rum is aromatic and powerful, but doesn't burn at all; the alcohol is present on the nose, but melts well. The fruit is full-bodied, and blackberry completes the picture. The very Jamaican pineapple/olive duo works wonderfully, this character is rightly exploited, it's not coarse.

Aeration brings out a more musky side. Without going so far as to call it a wild rum, we can say that it is more "Hampden". It's rather full-bodied and determined, although there's also a certain coating, a fatty, round film that contains it. We imagine a lovely texture underlined by fine copper.

The palate is round and acidic at the same time, thanks to notes of fermentation that draw towards olive brine. The ripe pineapple is precisely balanced and the texture is quite mineral, sharp and dry. Traces of copper are once again apparent, as in the famous white overproofs. It's the metallic side of the pot-still that speaks, with rusty funk and incisive exotic fruit.

On the finish, you'll be delighted by the vegetal resin and dry herbaceousness. The palate lingers for a long time, with the character of a pot-still white rum.

"The aroma retention and finesse of this rum will make it a solid and versatile element in cocktails..."
