Yamazakura Blended 40°: Description and customer reviews

Yamazakura Blended is a blended whisky from Japan's Sasanokawa Shuzo distillery.
This blend of 4 grain and malt whiskies has been aged in American oak barrels containing bourbon.

Its name is a blend of Yama (mountain) and Sakura (cherry blossom), representing the spirit of Japan.

Thomas' tasting notes

The nose has a floral sweetness (elderberry candy, honeysuckle). The whole appears slightly sweet, and gradually develops buttery cereal cookies, caramel and barley sugar. Some white fruits, such as pear, are sprinkled with vanilla sugar and come with a few dried fruits.

The palate is rather silky, with a hint of honey. Confectionery is present, always dominant. It consists of barley sugar and elderberry candies. White fruits with vanilla sugar are always accompanied by dried fruit. However, a few spices (cinnamon, clove, sweet pepper) and a herbaceous touch (highly infused lime blossom) partially break up its well-rounded character.

The finish is sober and maintains a rather similar approach. Indeed, the sweetness of barley sugar and vanilla sugar is still palpable. White fruits are also present, as are infused herbs and moderately expressed spices (pepper, clove, ginger, sweet pepper).

" A blend of sweet flavours complemented by a few spices..."
