Zaka Rum Single Distillery Mauritius 7 ans is a blend of rums fromMauritius. The blend is composed of rums made from pure cane juice (75%) and molasses rums (25%). Zaka is a voodoo god of peasantry and agriculture. He is invoked here to pay homage to the men who have made and continue to make rum.
Distilled in columns, the rums in theblend are aged for between 7 and 10 years. They are aged in ex-bourbon barrels and new French oak.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is finely fruity, and takes the form of a bright sugar candy, which one imagines to be crisp and tart. The oak is discreet, but shows a slightly burnt facet. We then follow a trail of nuts and vanilla caramel.
Aeration brings out the candy side of this rum, as it brings fruit back to the fore. These are fresh but sweet, almost like fruits in syrup such as pear and pineapple.
The palate is soft and slightly fruity on the attack, then the oak takes over smoothly. It calmly spreads its little melody of vanilla, blond tobacco and coconut milk.
On the finish, a few spicy touches tickle the taste buds, before the rum gently evaporates.
