Asahi Breweries, Ltd. is a Japanese brewing group founded in 1889 in Osaka , now recognized as one of the major players in the beverage industry in Japan.

The first Asahi breweries were established in 1889 , before becoming Osaka breweries in 1893. In 1906, these merged with other establishments to form Dai-Nippon breweries , marking a key step in the development of the group.

From 1987 onwards, Asahi experienced a decisive turning point with the launch of Asahi Super Dry , the first dry-style beer . Its meteoric success triggered the famous "Dry Sensō" (dry beer war). Kirin responded to Asahi by launching a competing product (Kirin Dry) in 1988, followed by Sapporo (with Sapporo Dry) and Suntory (Suntory Dry).
But Asahi maintains its monopoly and propels Asahi Super Dry to become one of the most consumed beers in Japan .

Over the years, the Asahi group has diversified its activities beyond beer. It has also established itself in the world of spirits, notably through its subsidiary Nikka Whisky , now considered one of the world's leading producers of Japanese whisky . Read less
