Barelegs

The Islay Boy Ltd is the result of a meeting between two sons of the Rhine Peninsula, west of the Isle of Islay : Donald MacKenzie, originally from Port Charlotte, and Mackay Smith, from the neighboring village of Portnahaven. Lifelong friends, they share a common passion for whisky as well as a deep and unbreakable connection to their homeland.

Like their Viking and Celtic ancestors – Ketill Flatnose, Magnus Barelegs, and so many others – Donald and Mackay have the soul of explorers. Their journeys have taken them far beyond Islay, from New York to Paris, and even to the spice fields of Zanzibar. From these travels, they have brought back experiences and inspirations, which they have skillfully blended with Scottish traditions to create whiskies designed first and foremost for the pleasure of tasting and sharing.

The Barelegs brand

The Barelegs range takes its name from Ketill Bjornsson , also known as Flatnose , a 9th-century Viking king of the Isles and ruler of the islands west of Scotland. An iconic figure who embodies the heritage, freedom, and conquering spirit of the Islay Boys.

Far from being a passing fad, the Islay Boys are first and foremost two childhood friends, deeply rooted in Islay, a mythical island unanimously celebrated by whisky lovers for its legendary distilleries.

Donald MacKenzie is also a well-known figure in France, where he serves as an ambassador for the Dugas company , importer of prestigious distilleries such as Springbank, Bunnahabhain, Ledaig, Glen Moray , among others.

The Barelegs adventure begins with Flatnose, a Blended Scotch Whisky bottled at 43%, non-chill filtered , which stands out for its richness and peppery notes, appealing to both the curious and the connoisseurs.

Today, the range continues its development with the move to the 70cl format and the arrival of two new expressions.
Barelegs Blended Malt combines the assertive peat of Islay malts with the roundness and elegance of Speyside whiskies.
Barelegs Islay Single Malt, meanwhile, embodies the soul of Islay, offering an intensely peaty, powerful and authentic profile.
