Elijah Craig

Elijah Craig is a brand of Kentucky Straight Bourbon from Heaven Hill Distillery. Its name is a tribute to the pioneers of bourbon, of whom Elijah Craig is said to be the inventor. This Scottish-born reverend was the first to store his distillates in heavily burned new oak casks, defining an inimitable style.

Located in Louisville, the distillery uses Kentucky limestone water for fermentation. The grains used are 78% corn, 10% rye and 12% barley. The American white oak barrels undergo a strong 40-second toasting, known as level 3. This is followed by lighter toasting, to further develop the characteristic flavors of the bourbon barrel. The barrels are stored in a Rickhouse, a 7-storey cellar with numerous open windows for maximum air circulation. This cellar is also made of wood and metal, to inflict extreme temperature changes on the barrels.

Elijah Craig Small Batch bourbon is the brand's flagship. A number of single barrels, as well as a rye, have also been released. Read less
