Habitation La Salle is a former sugar factory founded at the end of the 17th century in Sainte-Marie, Martinique.

Located in the North-East of the island, this house once produced pure sugar cane juice for the distillation of tafia, the ancestor of rum.

The Saint James distillery recently restored the old Habitation in order to revive this site steeped in history. They also created a brand and developed a range of AOC Martinique rums which are inspired by this place and its history.

The distillation of agricultural rum is done in a Creole column at the Sainte Marie distillery. The oenologist in charge of selecting barrels for old rums is none other than Marc Sassier. Read less
