1423 SBS Jamaica Monymusk 2007 PX Sherry Cask 11 years is a Jamaican rum from the Clarendon distillery. Monymusk is the name of the nearby sugar estate, and also that of a local rum brand.
This is a pot still molasses rum, aged for 11 years before a special finish. Finished for several months in Pedro Ximenez sherry ex-cask, it brings out its fruity notes.
This unique cask was bottled brut de fût, without cold filtration, for a total of 241 bottles.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, the fruit is mellow, mature, as if dried or candied. An almost farmy touch arrives in fits and starts, accompanied by a slightly acid copper hue. The latter takes us back to the copper pot in which the apricot jam is bubbling, in the spirit of an old Armagnac.
The aeration turns the page from jammy fruit to a more vegetal world. In a coniferous forest, we find a few juniper berries, dill, a sprig of rosemary, then fresh wood reminiscent of pencil peelings.
On the palate, the power is warm but not burning, giving us a most invigorating attack. Many other spirits come to mind before the rum: a calvados, a young Armagnac still full of fresh fruit, a manzana... Green apple takes center stage, sharing the spotlight with almond in this fresh, gourmet rum.
The finish is a little pastry-like and coppery, with our green apple liqueur still very much in evidence.
"A unique rum with a false air of apple liqueur or calvados...".
