A 1710 Renaissance 2023 is a pure cane juice rum from Martinique. It is produced by the Habitation du Simon, in the commune of François.
Just like the 2021 and 2022 vintages, this Renaissance cuvée is the fruit of unique craftsmanship. The freshly cut canes are crushed the same day. The pure cane juice undergoes a long fermentation of 5 to 6 days with the use of oenological yeasts. This is followed by distillation in the copper still equipped with a small column and nicknamed “La Belle Aline”.
The rum then spends a few days in ex-cognac oak barrels.
Like all A1710 cuvées, bottling is done by hand, and the decanters are numbered.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, this rum is as fresh as it is generous, splashing us with fresh cane and juicy citrus. The sugarcane juice is naturally herbaceous and vegetal, yet ripe and sweet enough to inspire gourmandise.
Aeration brings out very ripe citrus fruit, even past its peak of ripeness. The fermented side of vesou drinks in this sweet acidity, giving us a very authentically tropical character.
On the palate, the rum's character is once again very authentic, with multi-faceted herbaceous vegetation, from chlorophyll green to rosemary resin, to sweet, candied aromatic herbs. The sweet cane then sets in, encouraged by a pinch of pepper.
The finish is more typical of Martinique rhum agricole, with a slightly sour touch of fermentation and a hint of lime peel.
"A cuvée with personality, thanks to a very rich, multi-faceted cane..."
