Barbancourt Blanc 40°: Description and customer reviews

Barbancourt Blanc is a rum made from pure sugarcane juice on the island of Haiti. Founded in 1862 by Frenchman Dupré Barbancourt, the company is one of the oldest to produce on the island and export its products worldwide.

The vesou is fermented, then distilled using traditional batch methods in small copper stills. The rum is then reduced and bottled on site in Port-au-Prince.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is light and floral, the cane rising in a fresh breath that warms as the sunlight becomes more intense. It then breaks down into spicy notes and tart red fruits such as redcurrant.

Aeration continues to warm the cane juice, revealing new facets. We discover a touch of hot steel, as well as burnt cane, a little earthy and mineral.

The palate is very light, with stealthy fruit flavors flashing across. The mid-palate is ethereal and spicy, with a rather silky texture nonetheless.

The finish is marked by aromas of lightly cooked sugar.

"A very light rum that resembles a sugarcane vodka..."
