Barcelo Gran Platinium is a light molasses rum distilled in the Dominican Republic. This rum is white and translucent, yet it is an aged rum. In fact, this blend of rums aged an average of 6 years is aged in American white oak barrels. Charcoal filtration gives it this transparency, perfect for mixing old rum flavors without coloring your cocktails.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is light, with fine floral and freshly fruity notes. Rose petals studded with dew tickle the nose, followed by tangy lychee juice. Behind a rather ethereal side, a veil of exotic fruit waits patiently.
On aeration, there are a few peppercorns of gray pepper, as well as tangy red fruit. You might think of redcurrants or pomegranate seeds.
On the palate, the rum's sweetness is quite remarkable, as one might have expected some ethereal or spicy overtones. Its round texture, however, gives way to fresh notes of water fruit, such as watermelon or green melon.
The finish is also light, with a hint of crushed strawberries.
