This molasses rum bottled by Barikenn is produced by the Long Pond distillery in Jamaica.
The rum for this cuvée was distilled in September 2007 in a pot still. It bears the ITP (Ive Trewlany Pot) mark. Its ester content is between 90 and 120 g/hlap (grams per hectoliter of pure alcohol).
This unique cask was aged for 13 years in the tropics, followed by a further 2 years in Europe in the same cask (a first-fill ex-bourbon).
Bottling took place in November 2022 without cold filtration, and 301 numbered bottles were produced.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is an exotic candy wrapped in a classy case of precious woods, cigar curls and rare spices. All the fruitiness of this Jamaican rum is patinated, matured, candied, until it finds rest and harmony, all in elegance.
With aeration, the spices come out of their box and fly in all directions. They mingle with the heavy cigar smoke, which has nothing ashy or burnt about it, but whose fatness seems to take the form of long, lingering scents of fruit so ripe that it has completely melted.
The palate offers the same balance as the nose, with a surprising leniency for the taste buds, given the power developed. In fact, the velvety texture that glides across the palate quietly but intensely distributes its fruity, copper-edged flavors, enhanced by spicy brown tobacco.
The finish numbs the taste buds slightly with a pretty clove from which emanate some liquorice juices.
