Bayou XO Mardi Gras 40°: Description and customer reviews

Bayou XO Mardi Gras is a tribute to Cajun culture and the celebration of the beginning of Lent. This is a very important tradition in Louisiana, where this rum originated. The Bayou distillery is one of the largest in the United States, working exclusively with local molasses and distilling its rums into small cuvées and pot-stills.

This rum is aged in ex-bourbon American oak barrels. Arranged according to the Solera method, the oldest barrels are 6 years old. Some of the rums in the blend have been finished in sherry casks.

He won a medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2019.

This is my first bottle of XO Bayou Mardi Gras. You can quickly feel the quality of the Solera method (6 years a priori) and finished in old sherry casks, it is a complex and fruity rum. Being of course a fan of Louisiana, they captured the spirit of the bayou, the cypresses, New Orleans! Louisiana without forgetting the Mardi Gras celebrations…. What I smell: Sweet aromas of dried fruits mingle with the nose of cedar wood and tobacco. On the palate notes of prunes, apricots, plums, with a magnificent spicy and woody note.
