One of the oldest rums produced by the fledgling Chamarel distillery, VSOP pure cane juice rum is nonetheless a top-quality rum.
Produced from the juice of canes carefully cut on the estate, Chamarel VSOP is a blend of 70% column-distilled rum and 30% rum fromrepasse stills. Aged for 4 years in oak barrels, the cuvée is slowly imbued with a rich palette of aromas.
Laurent's tasting notes
Its dress is gold.
On the nose, you know you're dealing with a dry rum. The nose is composed of an interesting blend of olive aroma, baked caramel, sweet spices and is rounded out by a light touch of pepper.
On the palate, the attack isn't very expressive, although there's a hint of peach, pepper and alcohol, which is still very present. Keep it on the palate, however, for the aromas to develop, and you'll see a floral note (rose and jasmine) as well as something pastry-like.
The finish is fruity, almost heady, with the jasmine still discreetly present.
