This "extra old " pure cane juice rum from the Chamarel distillery in Mauritius has been aged for 6 years in French oak barrels, before a further 1 year in Sauternes barrels.
It was bottled in 2017 in a beautiful decanter to match its aromatic richness.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is a Chamarel signature, with a coppery edge that immediately catches the nostrils. The richness of this rum lies precisely in this note, which then delivers quince paste, toasted pecans, apricot, peach...
With a little air, we're back to plants and a very soft cane. We imagine it to be velvety and downy, like fresh young herbs. This is a complex rum, which then shows us a cigar box made of precious wood, followed by pretty berries of rare pepper.
The palate is ravishingly complex. After an explosion of this little copper core, a sort of resinous cane offers a bouquet of new, captivating flavors. We move into a vegetal and spicy register, with very elegant pepper berries, concentrated green cane, vanilla, varnished and lacquered nuts, candied fruit...
The finish is rather vegetal and pastry-like, with a sweet almond cane.
"This rum quietly builds up its complexity, the better to seize you with a mouth of stunning charm...".

Excellent!
I discovered this distillery on the island, and really enjoyed their entire production.
The bottle is magnificent and what a fragrance!
