Clément Colonne Créole Vieux follows on from the success of the "white" version.
Distilled in small copper columns, this cuvée is made from rums aged between 3 and 10 years in bourbon barrels.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose offers an enveloping array of still-white, fatty nuts. Peanuts and macadamia nuts, for example, rival each other in their greediness. This mellow woodiness is accompanied by a slight vegetal, greener side, which naturally leads us towards cane.
With aeration, the rum gains in stature, its woodiness tightens a little and reveals a fine pinch of pepper. This time, cane is evoked in a more rustic, drier, earthier light.
The palate is soft and rather abundant, melting quickly and spreading frenetically in all directions. On one side, fresh fruits like apple and pear, on the other, dried fruits like apricot. And then a little further on, the mid-palate offers a rather tender, almost malty moment, also with a round, smoky vegetal that is strangely reminiscent of mezcal.
The finish is quite gourmand, and the idea of whisky or even mezcal, rustic and gently smoky, doesn't leave us.
"An aged rum with a very personal, gourmet and original identity..."
