Compagnie des Indes Barbagaya 14 ans 43°: Description and customer reviews

Compagnie des Indes Barbagaya 14 ans is the third edition of La Compagnie des Indes Small Batches. After Dominidad and Veneragua, this new creation brings together two great distilleries from Barbados and Guyana.

The two rums making up this blend are molasses rums distilled in 2007. They were aged separately in their original distilleries (Foursquare and Diamond) for 6 years. They matured in France for a further 4 years, before being blended in a single barrel in 2021.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is initially rather light, with a fine curtain of smoke settling on the glass. This smoke seems to point in the direction of a well-roasted oak barrel, which with a little air begins to reveal flame-passed nuts, as well as a veil of vanilla.

With a little air, other aromas join to enrich the profile. Fruits, among others, intrude with freshness and vivacity, bringing light. Oak balances out with notes of sweet spices and caramelized nuts.

On the palate, oak embraces the taste buds with its tender fiber and toasty edges. Vanilla and coconut emerge naturally from this oak brioche, and are soon joined by other sweet spices and nuts.

The finish offers the same deliciousness, with a fruity layer that eventually surfaces and maintains the length.

"A well-found balance, where the fruit, though discreet, is there to push everything else along..."
