Compagnie des Indes Latino 5 ans 40°: Description and customer reviews

Compagnie des Indes Latino is a blend of mainly "Spanish" rums (60% from Guatemala), but not exclusively, as some of the rum comes from Guyana (English influence).
The Spanish type brings gourmandise, while the English influence adds a touch of freshness.

5 years of aging in new bourbon barrels have given this rum its roundness and rich palette of aromas.

The rum is bottled without cold filtration.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose of this blend is rather light, but there's already a certain greediness emerging, with a little oxidation and yeast. It's light, yes, but still relatively powerful in terms of alcohol. We'll need a little aeration before the caramel and coconut aromas come to the fore.
So, with a little rest, here are notes of butterscotch, coconut and light cocoa. The nose has developed and we now have flambéed fresh fruit (pineapple above all).

The mouthfeel is both round and dry. Let me explain: the texture at the beginning of the mouth seems relatively thick, but afterwards it's rather straight and dry. The fresh pineapple flambé and a few floral notes are again expressed in this strength. The pineapple is well caramelized and accompanied by a melting almond nougat.

On the finish: lots of butterscotch, which melts fairly quickly as the rum sinks into the throat.

"This simple blend doesn't fall into the trap of overly sweet rums, and is recommended for anyone wishing to discover light rums..."

Not too much for my taste

The nose is not very intense, but tasty. Notes of coconut, pineapple, a little sugar (molasses) and vanilla.
A nose that makes you want to pair this rum with a crème brûlée.

Greedy and dry on the palate. We find the molasses of the nose but more in a caramel register. Notes of roasting (coffee). Vanilla is also present. The pineapple of the nose is this time roasted with sugarcane syrup.
The blend of English and Spanish styles is beautifully mastered in this rum. It's gourmand without being nauseating. Indeed, it's a rather dry rum, but you can taste the gourmandise of a ron.

A medium finish, more on molasses, pineapple and cane.

A successful blend. A daring but formidable gamble. I recommend it to everyone. Beginners and experts alike. This is an interesting rum for dessert. It's a perfect match for crème brulée or roasted pineapple.

Bravo and great value for money.
