This 23-year-old rum is part of the Arturo Makasare series and comes from Dominican Republic casks selected by Corman Collins.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is dominated by roasted aromas, with smoke, strongly toasted wood, coffee and toasted nuts. This is a well-caramelized, dark rum with a fairly light heart. It's the ageing and the toasted wood that take the lead.
Aeration reveals a few acidic berries, followed by riper, even stewed ones. Spices become softer, and vanilla shows itself in a rather delicate light. There's even a hint of candied tannins and ripe cane.
On the palate, the attack is very smooth and even sweet. The rum opens on caramel and honey, with a smoothness and greediness. Nuts like pecans are well coated and sprinkled with coffee and sweet spices. The jammy fruit comes later, in the middle of the palate.
The finish is very round and vanilla-like, still coated in soft caramel.
