Cubaney Selecto 18 ans is a very old rum produced in the Dominican Republic by the Oliver y Oliver distillery.
Aged in oak casks and benefiting from the solera system in the tropical Caribbean climate, this rum seduces with its fullness and assertive character.
Nico's tasting notes
In brief: caramel - vanilla - light - sweet
The nose opens with light caramel and vanilla. This vanilla quickly takes on great breadth. It brings with it a good handful of almonds, for a frangipane that's not too heavy, with an interesting hint of woodiness.
The opening confirms the predominance of vanilla, with the addition of cane sugar giving the rum a confectionery feel.
On the palate, the vanilla is full, fat and sweet. There's a hint of spice intensity on the mid-palate, as well as well-cooked caramel. The woodiness is also vanilla-like, and the profile is fairly straightforward.
The finish unfolds on toasted wood and caramel.
"This light rum gives pride of place to vanilla and sweetness..."
