Damoiseau Shrubb 40° is an orange liqueur made from agricultural rum from Guadeloupe. But it's actually more than that, because the shrubb is a West Indian institution. Prepared before the Christmas holidays, with sun-dried orange peels, it holds an important place on the festive table.
You can enjoy this shrubb with an ice cube, but also with a dash of tonic for a very chilled cocktail.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, the citrus peel comes through generously, in a sweet rush that has all the makings of a rich cane sugar syrup. The alcohol is completely mellowed, and one expects a little tangy sweetness, very approachable, like a softly spiced cane candy.
The palate is very soft and sweet, and quickly balanced by the flavors and bitterness of citrus zest. Alcohol seems absent, despite the 40% claimed, which speaks volumes about the liqueur's deliciousness.
"A very tasty and easy shrubb, to drink chilled or extended with sparkling water or tonic..."
