With this vintage, the Depaz distillery pays homage to the city of Saint-Pierre.
As a reminder, Saint-Pierre was destroyed by the eruption of Montagne Pelée in 1902. The town was removed from the communes of France by the law of February 15, 1910.
The last heir, Victor Depaz, reopened a distillery on May 8, 1917. This was supplied by his cane fields located on the slopes of the volcano.
In 1922, he rebuilt the family castle based on plans for the Perinelle house. Commercial activity resumed and with the law of March 20, 1923, the French authorities restored Saint-Pierre to its status as a commune of France.
As part of the centenary of the refounding of the city, Depaz has produced a special vintage. The first 100 bottles were auctioned on Saturday December 30, 2023.
It is a blend of rums from 100 different barrels. To do this, the cellar master used the drip technique. Long but meticulous, it allows all the rums to be optimally harmonized.
This vintage of old rum is produced in only 400 numbered copies.
