Dillon Rhum Très Vieux Millésime 2004 in decanter 43°: Description and customer reviews

This 2004 vintage from Dillon is bottled in a beautiful gold-lettered decanter.

Aged for 12 years in American oak barrels, it was refined in French oak barrels.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is marked by an elegant woodiness, adorned with sweet spices, various tobaccos and freshly roasted nuts. Precious wood essences mingle with the vegetal qualities of cane, as cedar blends harmoniously with rich, fruity vesou, never heavy.

Aeration reveals that the rum is smoldering with a brew of overripe exotic fruits. This is the kind of powerful fruit that falls heavily from trees, giving off a heady perfume. Here, however, that scent has been harvested and carefully locked away in this classy oak, allowing us to admire it to our heart's content.

The palate is full-bodied and richly textured from the outset, without taking over the taste buds. The nuts and woodiness are massive but not astringent, presenting a fluid paste that aims to occupy every nook and cranny of the palate. This is followed by an elegant, complex wave of vegetal, floral and fruity notes. Fresh and dried herbs follow, as if picked in the maquis.

The finish shows a very mellow woodiness, mingling dried apricots and dates, with formidable length and complexity.

"A very fine rum, elegant and complex, tasty and just right, great agricole..."

If you like it, we recommend :

  • A very generous rum that retains its elegance, with radiant dried fruit...
  • A very fresh rhum agricole, the orange first appears in hints, then finally explodes on the palate...
