Dillon XO 9 ans is a very old AOC agricultural rum made in the pure Martinique tradition. The House of Dillon owes its name to the famous Count Arthur Dillon, general and hero of the American War of Independence.
Distilled in a Creole column, this rum is aged for 9 years in oak barrels in the tropical climate of Martinique, near Fort-de-France.
Nico's tasting notes
At first, the nose is fresh and fruity, with sweet mirabelle plums and apricots; then this fruitiness becomes more jammy as we begin to approach prunes and dried figs. Mature cane juice joins this pretty jam, then the whole is surrounded by cedar and tobacco.
Aeration takes us to a gently spicy profile, adorned with a veil of vanilla and enhanced by the acidity of some tannins. The resinous side of the tannins melts away, punctuating the nose with sparks of fresh fruit.
The palate is very tasty, with a fine concentration of cane and rich oak. There's balance at every level, with spices that are sufficiently intense to enhance the restrained power, and candied cane that softens the finely peppery woodiness.
The finish is garnished with roasted nuts, with velvety green cane juice tending towards aromatics, and a diffuse hint of menthol in the length.
"Outstanding value for money value for this 9-year-old AOC Martinique... "
