Duppy Share 40°: Description and customer reviews

Duppy Share is a nod to the legend of the "duppies", the evil spirits that roam the Caribbean, intoxicated by rum evaporating from barrels. It is a blend of rums from Barbados and Jamaica.

On the one hand, we have a column rum distilled at Foursquare and aged for 5 years in ex-bourbon casks. And on the other, a 3-year-old rum distilled at Worthy Park. The rums were aged entirely in the tropics, before being brought to England for blending.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose opens with a soft, comfortable fruitiness. The rum settles on a bed of ripe white peaches, strawberries and softly exotic fruits. A few scents of toasted wood float in the distance, sprinkling a light dusting of sweet spices.

Aeration takes us further into the comfort of very tropical, but also very cozy aromas. Very ripe, even dried banana is very mellow, as is vanilla oak. It takes us towards an increasingly pastry-like, creamy, candied profile.

The palate is very much in the spirit of the nose, with a "funky/cool" character. The attack is soft, but marked by a flight of very ripe exotic fruits, in the midst of which our dried banana even becomes a little rebellious. The spices then clear the tongue to set up the next service: it's the turn of our gourmet woody.

The finale explores the latter, with a few hints of burnt wood.

"A very pleasant, friendly blend that doesn't deny its full-bodied origins..."
