For its 4th in the Easy Peasy collection, Spirits bottler Swell is heading to Martinique.
This is a Grand Arôme du Galion rum. It comes from the Galion sugar refinery/distillery located in La Trinité, Martinique.
Aging took place in ex-bourbon American oak barrels.
This rum is produced in a limited edition of 600 copies.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose , the delicacy of a great explosive aroma takes hold of our senses and propels us in a second into an ultra tropical territory. The exotic fruits are more than ripe, and the humus of the forest has airs of olive tapenade and leather.
With aeration, the rum becomes wilder and deeper, but also gains a creamier side that then moves towards something fruity and tangy, a bit like a wild berry yogurt. Resting gives it a honeyed and waxy side that is most beautiful.
The palate surprises with its very harmonious side, much less explosive than one might have imagined. Like a pearl of rum that blooms in the mouth, the thick liquid melts on the palate and delivers a nectar made of honey and ultra-concentrated exotic fruits, which pour onto the taste buds with an indecent sensuality.
The finish is of course extremely long, the candied exotic fruits parade continuously with sometimes some wilder accents, sometimes iodized, sometimes coppery.
“Few have managed to tame the beast of the Galleon, well done Swell…!”
