El Dorado 5 years 40: Description and customer reviews

El Dorado 5 ans is a rum from the Demerara region of Guyana, aged in American oak casks for a minimum of 5 years. Its character comes primarily from the Coffey wooden stills and Uitvlugt Savalle Still stills (no, there's no typo...) used to distill the rums that make it up.
El Dorado 5 ans also benefits from Guyanese rum-making traditions and the country's hot, humid climate.

The versatile character of El Dorado 5 ans makes it a good tasting rum, but also an ingredient of choice for cocktails. The rum won two medals at the Wine & Spirits Competition of San Francisco.

Tasting notes

With its golden color, El Dorado 5 ans is surprisingly complex for its age.
On the nose, aromas of toasted brown sugar and hints of cinnamon dominate. The rum also develops notes of dried tropical fruit.
The palate reveals spicy oak notes, dried fruit and tea, confirming the caramelized brown sugar of the nose. Overall, the rum is full-bodied.
On the finish, the rum expresses vanilla notes.

  1. Blaise Dropsy

Mixed 1/1 with Cross and Smith, perfect for making a black jamican rum in tiki cocktails worthy of Don the beachcomber.

  2. samyr

Not bad, but older el dorados are much better.

    color: amber

nose: very discreet. Aromas of cane sugar. A little spice (cinnamon).

Palate: We're on the theme of cane sugar. It's greedy, but it stops there. Fortunately, there's a little power on the finish to remind us that there's alcohol in this bottle.

    Final: Short

I think that in a cocktail, it will be more delicious. Pure rum is of little interest.
