El Dorado Port Mourant Uitvlugt Diamond 2010 Violet 49,6° : Description and customer reviews

El Dorado Port Mourant Uitvlugt Diamond 2010 Violet is a molasses rum from Guyana's mythical Demerara region. After the "Rare Collection" series, El Dorado returns with "blended in the barrel". These are blends from different stills, made before ageing in old bourbon casks.

The Port Mourant double pot-still takes pride of place, as do the Uitvlugt and Diamond columns. The distillation took place in 2010, for a raw cask bottling in 2019.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose opens with toasty, rounded notes, like a handful of well-roasted, caramel-coated pecans. A little vegetal and resinous freshness seems to creep in between the barrel staves, leaving the way clear for colorful exotic fruits.

With aeration, smoke and roasting are determined to keep their place. They relegate the fruit to the background, giving us a caramelized character.

The palate is marked by a familiar mineral, copper and devilishly fruity sensation. Only the Port Mourant still is capable of signing its rums like this. Here, it takes center stage, basking in the toasty, licorice-laced oak, followed by roasted nuts.

The finish is warm, with a paste of overripe exotic fruits and endless molasses.

"A good overview of everything El Dorado can do, always with the roundness that characterizes its blends..."
