El Dorado Rare Collection Diamond 1998 CBH 55.1°: Description and customer reviews

El Dorado Rare Collection Diamond 1998 comes from the great Diamond distillery in Guyana (British Guiana). The distillery was smaller when this rum was created, however, as the country's other distilleries have since moved away. Barrels and stills were transferred to Diamond.

In 1998, two columns from the "historic" Diamond distillery, Coffey Still and Savalle Still, gave birth to this rum.

It was then aged for 20 years in the tropical heat of the cellars before being bottled in 2018, without cold filtration.

Only 790 bottles were produced. This is a very limited edition, specially designed for the French distributor CBH.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is a concentrated block, a spirit of oak that expresses itself frankly, intensely, but without burning. The little touch of solvent that helps carry this power is perfectly in place and plays its role to perfection.

With aeration, a few lighter notes evaporate with force, and the rum tickles the nostrils for a moment. We then return to our white oak with its brioche, caramelized but decidedly intense fiber. Time calms this ardor, revealing dense vanilla, a little pepper, then milk chocolate and sweet spices.

The palate is powerful but well-coated. The intensity is still there, but we could have expected a little more fight on the palate. A smoky, coppery touch leads into a fuller-bodied mid-palate, with toasty oak and a sprinkling of pepper.

The finish is rather dark and molasses-filled, with distinct licorice flavors and an almost salty edge.

"A beautiful intensity for this Demerara, which draws all its character from its long ageing in bourbon barrels...".

Perfect bottle to recommend for a good tasting.

Sometimes .....There's nothing to say when a product is subtly well worked! An opinion ......lol: Buy it, with firm eyes! The price is a bit steep, but if you want to treat yourself once a year... Full-bodied, full of character, oily in the mouth, the molasses is very present! An exceptional product.
