Elements Of Islay Peat Full Proof 59.3° : Description and customer reviews

Elements Of Islay Peat Full Proof is a blend of different Islay distilleries.

This blended malt has been bottled without full proof.

Tasting notes from Thomas

On the nose, a perfectly restrained power greets us. The journey to Islay begins with wood smoke, wet stone and dried fish. Then a medicinal eucalyptus balm, seaweed and oyster shells contribute to this multi-faceted peat. Gradually, the latter takes a back seat. In this way, lemon, slivered almonds and sugar apples emerge from this deeply insular profile.

The aeration is not insignificant. Indeed, we gain a few caramelized almonds and hints of floral candy. The peat evolves in turn. We then smell slightly farmy crème fraîche, a medicinal scent, but also a little fresh mint and breadcrumbs. This nose is full of life and to the point, without being simplistic!
The addition of water makes it more airy and fresh. The saline peat has become more vegetal, the mint has been enlivened, and lemon and fleur-de-sel combine easily.

The palate is equally energetic and unadorned. The peat here is accompanied by candied lemon, sweet green apples and mint. It's also quite fresh, with lots of herbs and seaweed mingling with notes of camphor. Then the mineral aspect, sea spray and a veil of smoke come into play. Then it's the turn of Tibetan incense, chocolate cream and spices (nutmeg, cinnamon).
The dilution is intended to soothe the natural strength of this whisky. The spirit is retained, albeit slightly more bitter, fresher and lemony.

The finish leaves a pleasant lemony aftertaste on the palate. It lasts a long time, with peat reigning supreme at the end of the tasting. Smoke is more perceptible, accompanied by an assortment of chocolate, lemon, olive oil and camphor.
The vegetal flavors are reinforced by the addition of water, but the whole remains balanced.

"An excellent whisky that allows you to tour Islay in one peaty shot..."
