Fortin Heroica 40°: Description and customer reviews

Fortin Heroica is a blend of column-distilled rums made from organic cane honey!

All these cuvées are aged for 5 to 6 years in oak barrels that have previously contained bourbon.

The rum is slowly reduced to 40° using water from the springs around the Paraguayan distillery.

The name "Heroica" is a tribute to the inhabitants of the Fortin distillery's home town, Piribebuy. The latter were heroic during the War of the Triple Alliance, in a battle that took place on August 12, 1869. Between 1865 and 1870, this war pitted the Paraguayans against a foreign alliance made up of Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose settles on a gourmet nougatine with blond caramel. The greediness is measured, as there's no excess of roundness, so you want to go further. The heart is rather rich, a rum with a certain hold, with candied, caramelized cane surrounded by sweet spices.

Aeration gives a little more pep to the roasted notes, but the cane still behaves very well. It hasn't abandoned its identity, is full-bodied and blends well with the bourbon barrel.

The palate is well-balanced, though more barrel-driven than cane-driven. The attack is accompanied by a hint of wood and roasted nuts. Then some dried fruit lands on the tongue, like a light agricultural rum. They introduce the cane and its little gray pepper, which brighten up the palate a little.

The finish is light, with hints of vanilla and caramel.

"This cane honey rum is at the crossroads between pure juice and molasses traditions, and that's exactly what stands out in its profile..."

Good rum but no more for the price you can find better.

If you like it, we recommend :

  • Another hybrid rum, somewhere between pure juice and molasses...
  • A slightly older roasted rum...
