Hee Joy XO Jamaica 2008 43° : Description and customer reviews

Hee Joy XO Jamaica 2008 is a Jamaican rum distilled at Worthy Park. This island produces some of the most aromatic rums on the planet, using ancestral methods. It is a molasses rum produced by long fermentation and distilled 100% in pot stills.

The rum was distilled in 2008, then aged for 10 years in old Bourbon barrels. It then spent 6 months in old Cognac XO barrels, in the cellars of Hedonist Spirits in Chevanceaux (Charente Maritime). This single cask was reduced and bottled in 2018.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose offers us a little Jamaican confectionery, full of ripe banana and swollen with yeast. Other exotic fruits follow in a fragrant, colorful, slightly acidic syrup. The oak also gives its all, offering mellow tannins that evoke sweet aromas.

Aeration brings a floral note to our already fragrant rum. We imagine broad, aromatic white flowers in the midst of an exotic harvest. A hint of lychee acidity evokes roses, while fruit and almonds create a restful, pastry-like quality.

The palate is very smooth and fluid, and the rum flows into every corner of the palate without heaviness. The roasted banana purée is as tasty as ever, still carrying a hint of fresh fruit and offering an authentic, natural sensation. A hint of copper adds a little relief, before we give in completely to a light cream of exotic fruit.

The finish is fruity and fragrant, like a coulis of mange and passion fruit.

"A little Jamaican sweet, a springtime stroll through an exotic orchard..."
