Appleton 15 years Black River Casks 43° : Description and customer reviews

Appleton 15 ans is a blend of rums from the famous Jamaican distillery that are at least 15 years old.

Aged in American oak barrels.

Appleton Black River Casks was created under the supervision of Joy Spence, the distillery's master blender since 1997 and a veritable star in the rum world.

The Black River rises in the Nassau Valley, close to the distillery. Its water is used to reduce Appleton rums.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is immediately very balanced, with ripe orchard fruit underlined by oily orange peel. This balance doesn't prevent the rum from being lively, splashing us with sweet spices and a lovely vegetal edge tending towards blond tobacco.

Aeration lifts the veil slightly, to show us a much fuller-bodied, funkier, more Jamaican aspect. The fruitiness becomes increasingly exotic, with slightly acidic, coppery notes. A hint of bitter almond follows, giving it a more pastry-like quality.

The palate, too, is a model of balance, with just the right amount of liveliness and warmth to satisfy the palate. Spices spread across the palate, from savory pepper to languorous vanilla. Exotic fruits then release their thick juices, joining a flood of sweet almond milk.

The finish is greedy and pastry-like, with a hint of plum or cherry brandy with its pits.

"An excellent quality/price/indulgence ratio for this genuine 15-year-old, the result of masterful blending..."

    Selected with boxes

    All roundness and sweet spices.

  3. Customer

    A safe bet.

  4. Phil Gringo

Nice woodiness. Well-balanced with flavors of molasses, orange peel, coffee and light spice. But I think it lacks a little something, either funk or sweetness, to merit 5 stars despite its attractive price for 15 years of tropical aging.

  5. guillaume lelaure

    It's an excellent whisky
