Highland Park 16 Year Old Wings of the Eagle is a single malt scotch whisky produced by the Higland Park distillery. The distillery is located in Kirkwall, in Scotland's Orkney Islands.
This peaty single malt was developed by the distillery to celebrate the wild island climate of the Orkney Islands. Violent winds reaching over 150 km/h in winter sweep across the islands, preventing trees from growing and surviving the long winters. This explains why the peat on the moors is devoid of wood. It is nevertheless very rich in fragrant heather. This gives Highland Park whisky its distinctive, aromatic smoke.
Highland Park 16 Year Old is blended from a majority of European oak casks that previously contained sherry.
