JM White 40° - 1 liter! Description and customer reviews

A beautiful expression of the fertile land at the foot of Mount Pelée in northern Martinique, JM blanc 40° is made from the fresh juice of the estate's sugar cane.

This JM is appreciated for its balance, smoothness and aromatic intensity, perfect for cocktails.

Nico's tasting notes

The first nose of this Martinique rum is both spicy and vegetal. The cane is fresh and licorice-like, with a few spices tickling the nostrils. As for the vegetal register, it emphasizes the bagasse or straw of the cane, but a candied bagasse, not dry at all. This sweetness is undoubtedly due to the rather low alcohol content compared to what we're used to with white agricultural rums. The licorice is still there, as are the spices (caraway, aniseed, nutmeg), and the rum is herbaceous and fresh. It gives the impression of a mixture of spices and seeds that one sometimes eats after an Indian meal.
Aeration removes some of the herbal aspect, in favor of the spices, particularly pepper. These spices are powerful and deep, and there's a good handful of them. The cane is less herbaceous, more earthy and lively, and the rum now seems to be over 40%.

On the palate, we return to something sweeter, with fruitiness represented by banana and pear. Vegetal notes return, with hints of pine and resin. The rum then goes through an almost smoky, slightly iodized phase, with a touch of fermentation notes.

The finish leaves us with a dried-fruit-scented cane, in a blend that foreshadows the style and qualities of the aged rums to come from this young distillate.

"The 40% of this white rum offers a different approach and makes for an interesting tasting..."

    JM NOT!

Me and JM make 3. I've never liked JM very much. However, this is still a decent white rum at a good price.

A moderately intense nose of cane.

On the palate, we're on the cane, with medium balance and a little aggressiveness.

    A warm, long finish.
