JM Millésime 2005 Brut de fût 15 ans d'âge 42,4° : Description and customer reviews

The JM distillery is back once again with its famous "leather label". This is the 2005 brut de fût vintage.

This 15-year-old AOC Martinique agricole rum was distilled in 2005, then rested until June 2006. It was then aged in old bourbon casks. Bottling took place on October 24, 2022 at cask strength, without reduction or addition.

The JM distillery adds a leather label and a green wax seal to the cork. A wooden box completes the premium packaging.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, we enter the dimension of venerable, very old spirits, somewhere between cognac, armagnac, rum and even American whisky. Behind a slightly dusty veil (toasted wood and coffee) lies a luminous, vibrant liquid, full of golden-brown fruit.

With a little air, the candied cane juice is comfortably coiled against a woody, fatty nutty nuance, gaining the greediness of a rich frangipane. Yet elegance remains the order of the day, and the tannins of spice-waxed oak stretch into a complex blend of dried fruits.

On the palate, there's a slight surprise on the attack, with a fruity acidity that contrasts with the dark, cosy atmosphere of the nose. We're delighted to discover a new facet of this rum's complexity, all the more so as we quickly fall back into deeper, reduced, brown and caramelized flavors. The cane juice is thick, rich with vanilla and other sweet spices; we imagine it as a syrup slowly cooked in a copper pot.

The finish is fruitier, with tannins that linger on notes of apple and soursop.

"All the complexity of great spirits in a long journey through changing landscapes...".
