JM VSOP aged rum is aged for three years in oak barrels formerly used for bourbon. It was then matured in lightly burned new American oak barrels.
JM VSOP also draws its aromas from pure spring water drawn from the volcanic soil of Habitation Bellevue. Enjoy it neat or as a ti-punch.
Laurent's tasting notes
Its color is a light amber.
On the nose, this VSOP is well-balanced, with notes of vesuvius and cask complementing each other. There's a fine blend of wood, vanilla, fruit (apple and pear), tobacco and, more discreetly, coffee and cinnamon. Alcohol is very discreet.
On the palate, the fruit is less present, and the woodiness dominates with its toasty, tobacco notes. Coffee also takes pride of place alongside spices.
The finish is long and powerful for a while, before gradually losing intensity. After a pleasant peppery note on the finish, it's this dry cask, combined with tobacco, that takes the lead until it becomes slightly tannic. After a while, notes of brown sugar appear.
