Damoiseau 2001 10 ans is an exceptional vintage from the Guadeloupe distillery. It was bottled in 2011, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Damoiseau brand. Distilled in 2001 at Le Moule on Grande-Terre, this rum was aged for 10 years in a tropical climate. The barrels used are 180-liter pieces that have only been used once to age bourbon.
Nico's tasting notes
The rich nose welcomes us with open arms, generosity and greed. The tasting begins with a typically Guadeloupean style. A whole marmalade of ripe fruit is concentrated on the nose, whose fresh tannins balance the profile.
Aeration cooks and lightly roasts the tannins, giving them a roasted-apple impulse, perfumed with aromatic herbs. A few nuts, such as walnuts, subtly add to the picture, bringing body and substance.
The palate is full of candied fruit and citrus, but also green, resinous tannins. The balance quickly shifts to wood and fresh fiber, while the rum's texture also suggests a light, vegetal juice. The cane then regains thickness, with a typical pastry register of raisins, bitter almond and stone.
The finish continues in this pastry-like, gourmet vein, with a hint of very ripe exotic fruit in a grand aroma.
"A rum faithful to the tradition of its island, where the tannins have also left their mark..."
