This new version of the Kong Black version is very different from the old one since this time it is a 12-year-old rum from Panama without addition, and not a “spiced rum”.
12 years is the time it takes for a gorilla to reach adulthood.
Nico's tasting notes
From the rather light nose seems to emanate a very black smoke from an extremely charred oak barrel, to the point of touching mineral notes of coal. A layer of caramelized nuts rests under this toasted envelope.
With aeration, the rum becomes a little more powerful, and a few ethereal swirls fly out of the glass. When calm returns, we discover a very soft and gourmand profile, lined with vanilla and caramel.
The palate is fluid and soft, with a soft woody note composed of caramelized nuts that immediately offer a very tasty character. The strongly grilled aspect is not far away and quickly takes hold of the taste buds, while drawing a tighter, drier and sparkling profile, even spicy.
The finish is rather fine, ethereal, with a charred woodiness that leaves some mineral notes on the tongue.
“A profile largely driven by the roasting of a heavily toasted oak barrel”
