La Favorite Rivière Bel'Air Recolte 2021 is an AOC Martinique white rum made from a single variety of cane, grown on a single plot.
Its name derives from the 4-hectare Bel'Air plot planted with red cane (B64.277). These canes were harvested by hand and crushed by a battery of 3 mills powered by a steam engine (which is over 100 years old!). The vesou benefited from long fermentations, followed by continuous distillation in a Creole column in June 2021. The rum was brewed and reduced slowly to develop the full complexity of this parcel selection.
This edition was bottled in 8,100 copies in June 2022.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose offers a lovely introduction, with a well-balanced, elegantly aromatic rum. The cane gives us a very natural, vegetal and herbaceous side, but also the power and dryness typical of Martinique rums.
With a little air, all the qualities of the first nose are enhanced, while maintaining the same balance. The little gray/black pepper typical of La Favorite is showing its face, and we feel right at home...
The palate is very gourmand and almost pastry-like, with a very greasy touch of candied cane. The rum's herbaceous character is expressed in an extremely sweet, velvety way, encouraged by beautiful aromatic herbs (mint, Thai basil...).
The finish is a culmination, with flavors of cane sugar and even licorice molasses.
"A real candy cane, candied to perfection and ultra-tasty..."
By comparison, the La Favorite Rivière Bel Air 2020 was just as round and gourmand, but undoubtedly offered a more fruity and contrasting palette, more oriented towards fermentation. This cuvée 2021 is more elegant and vegetal, closer to cane, but just as oily and pleasant.
