La Maison du Rhum - Discovery - Panama is a new stage in the voyage around the world initiated by the Discovery range. This time, we make a stop in the world of traditional Hispanic rum, the "ron".
This molasses rum from Panama is the result of short fermentation and column distillation. It is therefore a light rum, which above all inherits the flavors associated with its maturation. After aging in bourbon casks, it is finished in old Palo Cortado sherry casks.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose opens with rather light blond caramel, enhanced by a few toasty notes. A little pale almond adds a little mellowness, and a few red fruits like crushed raspberry and strawberry add a tangy bubble-gum edge.
Aeration reveals a little more of the rum's woody side, and we begin to revolve around the register of toasted bread, light nuts and toasted oak. The sweet spices then take on a nice fullness, and vanilla flatters our nose abundantly.
In the mouth, the palate is pampered by a vanilla roundness that makes this rum ideal for a gentle discovery. Hints of toasted wood purr softly in the background, but it's the fiber of sugar-laden wood that occupies the mid-palate.
The finish is also round, rather light and gently spicy.
